Bishop John Requests Your Prayers for the People Affected by the Wildfires

The horrendous wildfires that flared up from the nearly 90 miles per hour winds last week have greatly impacted the lives and businesses of those living in the Gatlinburg/Sevier County area. Over 1,500 buildings were burned down leaving many without homes or their livelihoods.  While the fire is now nearly contained completely and fire fighters are being released from their deployment, Bishop John is asking that you continue to keep in your prayers and thoughts those who have been affected by this once-in-a-hundred years’ fire. We must also pray for the repose of the souls of those who lives were lost in trying to flee the fire.

We are grateful to God that Gatlinburg’s Trinity Episcopal Church, in our sister Diocese of East Tennessee, was unharmed by the fire.  News reports have said that the city of Gatlinburg will reopen tomorrow so this weekend may be the first time for many folks to see the full extent of the damage they have suffered.
