Task Force on Pastoral Response to LGBTQ Members of the Diocese

At the 2016 Annual Diocesan Convention, delegates passed a resolution calling for the creation of a task force that would continue in prayer, study, and conversation regarding the issue of Same Sex Marriage.  The resolution both acknowledged the faith and ministries of LGBTQI members in our congregations and diocese and reminded us that we were not of one mind on this matter as a diocese or as parishes, while encouraging us to live into the unity prayed for by our Lord Christ.  In the weeks that followed that meeting, the bishop asked Susan Huggins and The Rev. Brian McVey to co-chair the task force.  (2016 Report to the 185th Annual Convention from the Task Force on Pastoral Response to LGBTQ Members of the Diocese of Tennessee)

In the Task Force Report, Co-Chairs Susan Huggins and Brian McVey, describe their 2016 efforts in identifying  the full membership of the task force and their initial discussions geared toward determining how best to conduct important conversations around the diocese with lay and clergy members as part of their charter.

Since the 185th Annual Convention in January 2017, the Task Force has met a few times and defined the approach they will take for communicating with members and our churches through the life of the Task Force.  Periodic updates from the Task Force will be available here going forward.
