What are the costs if I am riding the bus?

  • Driver Tip – $2

  • Lunch – $-$$$ (You will be bringing or finding your own lunch. A list of nearby restaurants will come to you in a pre-pilgrimage email.)

What if I am driving myself or find a carpool?

Those who are driving themselves or are in a carpool will need to be aware that they must buy their own admission tickets to the National Memorial and the EJI Museum. You can call ahead and reserve your ticket by calling the EJI office at (334) 386-9100 or emailing Ticket Sales at ticketing@eji.org. Drivers and carpools have the choice of joining the bus riders in Birmingham for dinner or finding their own on the way home.

What is the total cost? Well, that depends on how you get there.

  • If you go via bus, your total cost to register will be $55. (Remember, you will bring a brown bag or find lunch on your own.)
  • If you drive yourself or go via carpool and plan on eating dinner with the bus riders, your total cost to register will be $20. (Remember, you will buy your own admission ticket and bring a brown bag or find lunch on your own.)
  • If you drive yourself or go via carpool, finding your own dinner your total cost to register will be $0. (Remember, you will buy your own admission ticket and bring a brown bag or find lunch on your own.)

A small number of scholarships are available for those who are financially challenged by the registration fee. Please contact The Rev. Rick Britton at rick_britton@comcast.net or The Rev. Carolyn Coleman at revcarolyn2016@gmail.com for more information.

Can you tell more a little more about itinerary?

We will leave promptly at 6 a.m. from Church of the Advent, so please arrive no later than 5:45 a.m. to be ready to get on the bus. Arriving in Montgomery at 10 a.m., we’ll get off the bus and visit the National Memorial for Peace and Justice first as the morning hours are cooler. Please know you will be asked to go through a security checkpoint.

After we have visited the Memorial, we will get back on the bus and arrive at the EJI Legacy Museum and Offices where everyone will have ample time to eat lunch.

Between 2 and 4 p.m., we will walk through The Legacy Museum. Our entrance time for the Museum will likely be 2 p.m. Be aware you will be asked to go through another security checkpoint. If you go through the Museum quickly, there are a few other sights close by that you may go visit. These will be provided in the pre-pilgrimage email.

We will leave Montgomery promptly at 4:30 p.m., so be sure to be at the bus no later than 4:15 p.m. We will then travel to Saint Stephen’s to enjoy a catered dinner that will include: grilled lemon and rosemary chicken, mixed green salad, roasted seasonal vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, rolls, tea and oatmeal, raisin and chocolate chip cookies and is catered by Tre Luna. If you are vegetarian and/or have other dietary needs, such as gluten free, you’ll have the chance to indicate this on the registration page, and we will also note this for lunches. Dinner is open to all who join the pilgrimage, but you must register for it, being aware that even if you are driving you will also be contributing to the cleaning fee Saint Stephen’s charges. We chose to pay this cleaning fee because after a long day, we know no one will be in the mood to clean up after dinner and sweep a large parish hall!

Dinner will conclude at 7 p.m., at which time we will get back on the bus and return to Nashville. We plan to arrive around 10 p.m. at Church of the Advent.

What should I bring with me?

  • An open mind and a prayerful heart
  • Walking shoes
  • Cool clothes since Montgomery is hot, even in late September, plus a sweater just in case the museum is cold
  • Sun gear, as we will tour the memorial, which is outside
  • Things you may need to make the bus ride comfortable

What accommodations does the bus have?

  • bathroom
  • wifi & USB outlets for wifi
  • overhead storage and under the bus storage
  • reclining seats
  • DVD player, which we may use
  • Please note: there are no seat belts, so the bus cannot accommodate car seats of any kind.

I still have a few questions. With whom do I speak?

Please contact The Rev. Rick Britton at rick_britton@comcast.net or The Rev. Carolyn Coleman at revcarolyn2016@gmail.com with any questions you may have.

I’m ready to register!
