SUMMARY:Art Show: Seeing Christ in the Darkness
DESCRIPTION:Seeing Christ in the Darkness is an excellent collection of the world-class prints of George Rouault\, one of the most important printmakers of the 20th century. The graphic art in this exhibition\, done at the height of the artist’s skill\, shows how deeply he identified with people’s suffering and\, indeed\, saw within this darkness the salvation of Jesus Christ. Visit the Bradford Gallery at St. George’s Church\, Nashville to view the collection and make plans to attend the exhibit’s opening reception with special guest Sandra Bowden on Friday\, February 3\, at 5:30pm.

SUMMARY:Absalom Jones Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Diocese of Tennessee invites you to celebrate the Feast Day of Absalom Jones on Sunday\, February 19\, at 6:00pm at Christ Church Cathedral. Absalom Jones was the first Black priest in the Episcopal Church. A reception will follow the service. The Rev. Dr. Deborah Jackson will be the guest preacher. Dr. Jackson is the Associate Dean for Community Life at St. Luke’s School of Theology\, University of the South\, in Sewanee\, Tennessee. In her role at the seminary\, she manages student services and serves as the primary pastor for the seminarians. Prior to starting at Sewanee in 2013\, she served in parish ministry in Florida. The Rt. Rev. John Bauerschmidt will celebrate. The choir of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church\, Franklin\, and the Student Choir of the Episcopal School of Nashville will provide music. The offering is designated for the two historically Black Episcopal Universities – St. Augustine’s in Raleigh\, NC and Voorhees University in Denmark\, SC. Both universities were founded after the Civil War to create educational opportunities for formerly enslaved people. Today they provide a liberal arts education to thousands of students\, as well as offer robust campus ministries to help form young adults as followers of Jesus and his way of love. Supporting these HBCUs is an investment in the ministry of reconciliation and building a better future for all. Since 2017\, the offerings from this service have contributed over $6\,000 to these two universities. You may also give online here.Read a biography of Absalom Jones. View a video message from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.
