All are welcome to attend the annual Trail of Tears Commemorative Walk in Winchester, Tennessee with the Sisters of St. Mary’s Convent. People will gather together at 11:30am at the Franklin County Library. There will be a blessing at 11:45am. At 12:00pm, the walkers will begin the solemn walk of 0.8 miles in the footsteps of the Cherokee who walked the same ground in 1838. Nearly 700 Cherokee were taken along this route. The walk will end at the Franklin County Library on Porter Street where demonstrations, displays, and presentations are part of the day’s exciting events. Cherokee storyteller Bo Taylor, who is a former archivist for the Museum of the Cherokee Indian in Cherokee, N.C, will share stories at 1:00pm and activities continue through 4:00pm with the library open for extended hours.
